History of the Koenigsegg Agera RS
The Koenigsegg Agera RS debuted in 2015, redefining the limits of performance and speed. On October 5, 2017, the Swedish automaker announced that the Agera RS officially held the world record for the 0-400-0 km/h acceleration-braking sequence, achieving a time of 36.44 seconds over a distance of 2,441 meters. This feat shattered the previous record held by the Bugatti Chiron, despite challenging track conditions, including a light drizzle that caused traction issues up to speeds of over 180 km/h.
On November 4, 2017, Koenigsegg’s factory driver, Niklas Lilja, set a world speed record for production cars on a stretch of Route 160 in Pahrump, Nevada, reaching an average speed of 447.91 km/h (277.87 mph) over a two-way run, with a peak speed of 457.49 km/h (284.55 mph). The Agera RS also re-broke the 0-400-0 km/h record, completing 0 to 400 km/h in 26.88 seconds (over 1,740.2 meters) and coming to a full stop in an additional 9.56 seconds (covering 499.3 meters), for a total time of 36.44 seconds over a distance of 2,239.5 meters.
Additionally, on the same day, Koenigsegg secured three more titles: the fastest kilometer on a public road (average of 445.54 km/h), the fastest mile on a public road (average of 444.66 km/h), and the highest top speed ever recorded on a public road (457.49 km/h). Although the Koenigsegg Regera later broke the 0-400-0 record on September 27, 2019, with a time of 31.49 seconds, the Agera RS's achievements remain legendary.
Koenigsegg Agera RS - Motorization
Under the hood, the Koenigsegg Agera RS is powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 engine. This aluminum-built marvel features four valves per cylinder, titanium connecting rods, and a dry sump lubrication system, ensuring durability and optimal lubrication during extreme performance. The sophisticated engine design allows for a jaw-dropping power output of up to 1,160 hp, seamlessly distributed through a specially developed 7-speed dual-clutch transmission with paddle-shift capabilities and an electronic differential. Every element of the motorization showcases cutting-edge technology tailored for record-breaking performance.
Koenigsegg Agera RS -
Performance is where the Agera RS truly shines. It achieves a stunning acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds and can blast from 0 to 200 km/h in 7.8 seconds. The car can cover a quarter-mile in under 10 seconds and has a top speed exceeding 420 km/h, showcasing its raw power. Notably, its braking system is just as impressive, allowing it to decelerate from 100 km/h to 0 in a mere 30.5 meters. Every aspect of the Agera RS's performance has been fine-tuned to create a hypercar that stands out in every measure of speed and agility.
How many Koenigsegg Agera RS produced?
Only 25 units of the Koenigsegg Agera RS were manufactured between 2015 and 2018, making this hypercar an extremely rare and coveted piece of automotive history.
