Overview about this Ferrari 512 M

We are proud to present this 1970 Ferrari 512 M, chassis 1018, one of just 15 examples built to “Modificata” spec. Originally delivered as a 512 S and raced in the 1970 and 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans, it was upgraded by the factory at the end of 1970 for enhanced aerodynamics and performance. Finished in Rosso with its iconic GELO Racing Le Mans livery, it has recently undergone a preservation restoration by Autofficina Bonini to retain its originality. Ferrari Red Book Classiche certified, it still carries its original chassis, engine, body, and gearbox—a rare feat for a two-time Le Mans entrant.

History of this Ferrari 512 M

The Ferrari 512 M (“Modificata”) was developed from the 512 S to battle Porsche’s dominance in the 1970 World Sportscar Championship. With only 15 converted to M specification, the 512 M featured improved aerodynamics and performance. It is one of the most iconic Ferrari endurance race cars, known for its participation in events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

How much is a Ferrari 512 M worth?
The value of a Ferrari 512 M depends heavily on originality, race history, and provenance. A nearly identical example was previously estimated between €9,000,000 and €12,000,000 EUR at auction, but ultimately went unsold. Based on its rare factory Modificata specification, double Le Mans participation, and matching-numbers chassis, engine, and gearbox, this car is estimated to be worth over €10,000,000, which equates to approximately $10,800,000 USD or £8,600,000 GBP.

How many 1970 Ferrari 512 M were made?
Enzo Ferrari had just sold 50% of his company to Fiat, providing the financial firepower to challenge Porsche in the 1970 World Sportscar Championship. To homologate the model, Ferrari produced 25 units of the 512 S. Seventeen of them competed in the 1970 endurance season. Out of those, only 15 were upgraded by the factory to 512 M (Modificata) specification, including this example—originally delivered in Giallo before its official M conversion by Ferrari.
