The Mercedes-Benz 300 S was more expensive than the 300 SL in its time and cost almost twice as much as the contemporary Cadillac top model. It was considered one of the most exclusive automobiles of its era. The car, which was presented at the Frankfurt IAA in 1951, has a historical significance as the first completely new Mercedes-Benz design after the war. It brought the brand back to a leading position in automotive engineering, in keeping with the tradition of the company, which has always produced top-of-the-range vehicles of the finest quality. The top model in the series was the 300 Sc. The 300 Sc had an engine with dry sump lubrication and fuel injection that produced 175 hp.

The suspension benefited from the rear single-joint swing axle, similar to the 300 SL, which significantly improved the Straβenlage. Top speed was now 180 km/h with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 13 seconds. Servo-assisted brakes, which had been available as an option since 1954, were now standard equipment. The 300 Sc is considered by Mercedes-Benz collectors to be the most sought-after luxury model of the post-war period. In the four years of production, only 200 of all 300 Sc models were built, of which the Cabriolet is the rarest version with only 49 units. This 300SC Cabriolet was finished in the factory on 03.05.1957 and was already equipped with "sealed beam" headlights for the American market at that time. On May 29th 1959 the S.S. Liberté shipped from Le Havre in northwest France to America. It belonged to Major General Victor Emile Bertrandias, who was 65 years old at the time and who had already served in the American Air Force in Germany during World War I. He was enthusiastic about German technology and German quality, which induced him to import such a valuable car to America. Major General Vicor E. Bertrandias died on March 18, 1961.

After that, the car lost its trace until 1993, when a collection of exquisite automobiles was started in California and was to achieve a very special status through top-class precious objects. So also this 300SC convertible was acquired by the "Global Classic Collection Inc." in Carmichael/California. The car remained there until 2016, when it underwent extensive "nut and bolt" restoration in California about 20 years ago and has hardly been used since then. We think it is the best 300SC convertible currently available on the market.
