With an edition of only 150 models, the Mercfedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 S Roadster from the 2009 model year is arguably a very interesting collector's item - and additionally more than exclusive. With the SLR Roadster 722 S, Mercedes-Benz commemorated the historic victory in the Italian endurance classic Mille Miglia, which was won in 1955 by the British racing driver Stirling Moss and his co-driver Dennis Jenkinson in the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with the starting number 722. The SLR Roadster 722 S has a 5.5 litre V8 supercharged engine from Mercdes-AMG with 478 kW / 650 hp and a torque of 820 Nm. The five-speed automatic transmission has been specially designed for high torque and ensures a sprint to the 100 km/h mark in just 3.7 seconds. The 200 km/h mark is reached in 10.6 seconds and the top speed is 335 km/h. Apart from two engine frames made of aluminium, the body is made entirely of carbon fibre materials (CFRP). This makes the roadster an exception among high-performance sports cars. The elaborate carbon technology for the monocoque was intelligently further developed especially for the vehicle itself. The result is low weight, exemplary energy absorption and thus high occupant safety, as well as torsional rigidity previously unattainable in open vehicles. Adding to the qualities of the 722 S roadster model is the fully retractable fabric roof, which blends harmoniously with the roadster's flowing lines. The weave structure of the high-tech roof material picks up on the carbon look, offers full everyday suitability in any weather situation and enables the top speed of 335 km/h, which is rather unusual for a roadster. Conversations should still be possible at well over 200 km/h thanks to favourable aeroacoustics during open-air driving. In the interior, sports bucket seats with a combined semi-aniline leather/Alcantara covering provide the best lateral support. Attractive visual accents are set by the eye-catching contrasting stitching in the interior in 300 SL red, the "722 S" embossing on the headrests and the seat belts, which are also red. Frequently used controls, such as the gearshift or handbrake levers, are covered in non-slip, moisture-absorbing suede. Consistent use of carbon also underlines the high-performance philosophy in the interior.
