Description of the car:
Discover the rich history of Epsilon Euskadi, a pioneering team that played a significant role in Formula 1 and Le Mans Prototype racing. Headquartered in the Basque region, the team, led by Formula 1 veteran Joan Villadelprat, focused on comprehensive race car development, covering aspects from wind tunnel testing to carbon fiber manufacturing.
Joan Villadelprat, with an extensive Formula 1 career, founded Epsilon Euskadi. Notably, he served as the first non-Italian chief mechanic for Ferrari and played a crucial role in Ron Dennis' McLaren team and Prost Grand Prix.
After achieving success in the World Series by Renault and various Formula Renault 2.0 divisions, Epsilon Euskadi decided to leverage its expertise and create its own in-house prototype racing car—the EE1.
The EE1, designed for top-tier Le Mans Prototype racing, featured a full carbon fiber monocoque and was propelled by a naturally-aspirated V10 from Judd, positioned longitudinally behind the driver. The Ricardo-supplied 6-speed sequential manual gearbox contributed to the car's lightweight construction, coming in at 900kg. Though the EE1 faced challenges with pace during the 2008 season, it marked a significant milestone for Epsilon Euskadi.
For the 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans, Epsilon Euskadi entered two cars, with #21 driven by Shinji Nakano, Stefan Johansson, and Jean-Marc Gounon. Despite a promising 15th place in qualifying, both cars experienced mechanical issues during the race, leading to retirements.
Purchased by its current owner after more than a decade of inactivity, this specific EE1 has undergone a meticulous restoration and rebuild by Pursuit, renowned experts in Le Mans Prototype vehicles. Having been recently tested and featuring virtually zero hours on all components, the EE1 is now race-ready, eligible for various endurance race events. Experience the revival of this historic racing machine with a storied past.
