Rediscovering the Legacy: The Bugatti EB110
The resurgence of the Bugatti brand in the late 1980s under the stewardship of Italian Ferrari dealer Romano Artioli marked a remarkable chapter in automotive history. With a vision to revive the iconic marque, Artioli established a state-of-the-art factory in Campogalliano, Italy, laying the groundwork for the rebirth of Bugatti.
Birth of a Supercar:
In 1991, after years of meticulous development, the Bugatti EB110 made its debut, paying homage to Ettore Bugatti's 110th birthday. A marvel of engineering, the EB110 boasted a mid-mounted 3.5-liter V12 engine with five valves per cylinder and four turbochargers, delivering an impressive 553 bhp in GT form. Designed by the legendary Marcello Gandini and Giampalo Bendini, its striking angular design set it apart from its competitors.
Evolution to Supersport:
Building on the success of the GT, Artioli unveiled the Supersport (SS) variant in 1992 at the Geneva Motor Show. With a power increase to 610 bhp and a weight reduction of 150 kg, the SS became a force to be reckoned with, setting records for acceleration and top speed.
Racing Pedigree and Innovation:
Bugatti's return to racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans further solidified its reputation. Despite setbacks, the EB110 SS demonstrated its prowess, paving the way for future endeavors in motorsport. To expand its market reach, Bugatti developed a right-hand drive version, opening new opportunities in the UK and the Far East.
Prototype Legacy:
Chassis number GT055, a prototype EB110, played a pivotal role in Bugatti's post-bankruptcy era. Acquired by B-Engineering, it underwent extensive refurbishment, including mechanical upgrades and a striking new interior by Dauer. The result was a quad-turbo powerhouse with 645 bhp, making it a unique proposition in the automotive world.
Continued Legacy:
Today, this factory prototype stands as a testament to Bugatti's resilience and innovation. With its rich history and unparalleled performance, it remains a coveted piece of automotive history, embodying the spirit of the legendary marque.
