DESCRIPTION ABOUT THIS FERRARI DINO 246 GT
The Dino range of sports cars was named in honour of Enzo Ferrari's son, Alfredino, who designed a dual overhead-camshaft V6 engine for both road and racing use before tragically passing away at the age of 24.
The 206GT was the first model to be introduced in 1967, proving that Ferrari could compete with the likes of Porsche by producing a car in the more budget end of the sports car spectrum. The 206 featured a 2.0 litre transverse-mounted V6 engine capable of producing 160bhp at the 8,000rpm redline.
After 150 206s were produced, the updated 246 GT and GTS were introduced, boasting a bigger and more powerful 2.4 litre engine, which produced almost 200bhp and powered the Dino onto a top speed of 148mph. This power was sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed all-synchromesh manual gearbox. The Dino’s 2.4 litre V6 was used in several other Italian sports cars after its application in the 246, most notably the Lancia Stratos rally car.
Weighing only 1,080kg, the perfect weight distribution of the Dino thanks to its Rear-Mid-Engine layout was one of the defining features of the car, one of the all-time great handing Ferraris, on top of being one of the most beautiful.
This particular Dino is one of just 235 U.K. supplied RHD cars. It was delivered new to a J.H. Barder of Woking, via Maranello Concessionaires in 1972. Mr Barder kept and serviced the car until 1980 covering just under 22,000 miles. It was then sold via well-known Ferrari specialists Modena Engineering to a Mr D. Green who owned it for 7 years, using it sparingly covering around 4,000 miles in that time.
In 1987, Mr Michael Cox of Potters Bar, U.K., bought the car with 26,000 miles on and maintained it regularly until Mr Joseph Phillips of Ingatestone, U.K. bought it in 2004, at 29,000 miles. In 2008, the car was passed to a collector in Germany and formed a part of his extensive collection of Sport Cars, the mileage was 32,700 miles.
In 2014, the car was treated to a comprehensive restoration with classic car specialists Autohaus Aumüller GmbH. The restoration included a full bare metal respray and interior retrim as well as a full mechanical overhaul including an engine and gearbox rebuild to ensure the car drives as intended.
It sits today in wonderful restored condition, finished in a timeless Black over Black colour combination and showing just over 37,000 miles on the odometer. It maintains a comprehensive history file containing previous MOT certificates and continuous servicing invoices from 1972 to the present date, all confirming its low mileage and ownership history.
This car represents a fantastic opportunity to own a rare RHD, U.K. Dino in a wonderful colourway with low documented ownership and mileage. The Dino is a staple of any Ferrari collection and is a car that every enthusiast should experience at least once in their lifetime. Contact us now for more information or to arrange a viewing.
