Description of the car:
Faster than a P1 GTR, the BAC Mono, powered by a 2.5-liter Cosworth-fettled Duratec engine, astonished journalists during a test at Anglesey circuit in 2015. At that time, its four-cylinder engine revved to an impressive 8,000rpm and delivered a robust 305bhp. With a remarkably light dry weight of just 540kg, it achieved a power-to-weight ratio that rivaled the Veyron, standing at 525hp per ton!
Founded by brothers Neill and Ian Briggs in 2009, BAC introduced the Mono in 2011. The Mono is designed for a single occupant, with a centered driving position that offers the most focused driving experience conceivable.
In 2015, the engine received an upgrade, enabling the car to sprint from 0 to 60 in just 2.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 170mph. Every aspect of the car is meticulously designed with the goal of achieving the highest possible speed with the least possible weight. This intrinsic philosophy has endured over the years.
The Mono R was unveiled in 2022, representing the culmination of years of unwavering attention to detail. While its 2.5-liter engine remains, it has undergone numerous internal revisions to enhance power and revs. The most striking visual change is the Formula Three-style side-mounted airbox, paired with an air scoop above the driver's head. A larger bore and reduced stroke allow the engine to maintain its displacement but redline at 9,000rpm, a significant increase of 1,000rpm, along with 37hp more and an additional 16lb ft of torque.
Many fundamental components, such as the Hewland FTR sequential gearbox and steel wishbones, have remained unchanged. However, numerous materials have been updated. The Mono R weighs 25kg less than the standard Mono, which, in combination with the engine improvements, elevates its power-to-weight ratio from 525hp per ton to a wet 580bhp per ton.
BAC has succeeded in reducing weight from the carbon ceramic brakes, further trimming grams from the already lightweight carbon rotors. All body panels are new, now constructed from a lighter, stronger graphene composite. The chassis has also been re-evaluated to reduce weight where feasible.
