Description of the car:
This example of the Ferrari F50 was assembled at the Ferrari facility in June 1995, predating the production of the 349 individually numbered production cars. It is one of only 19 pre-production examples and was completed before the final approval for customer deliveries. Remarkably, it was made available to Pininfarina, which acquired the car as one of only six on behalf of a prominent Royal family with the intention of converting it to right-hand drive.
While the car may initially seem close to production specifications, a thorough examination has revealed nearly 40 distinct differences that set this example apart from the 349 production models. Notable distinctions include the rear screen being bolted in place with under-mounted perspex vanes, a different carbon fiber finish on various elements, different seat inserts, and the absence of a production plate. This extensive list of differences serves as a delight for those who appreciate the intricacies of Ferrari's ultimate manual flagship.
The planned conversion to right-hand drive did not materialize, and the car was eventually delivered to the prominent Royal collection on August 31, 1995. The vehicle saw limited use, becoming part of a significant collection that included the five other cars from the Pininfarina order and at least three additional examples.
In 1997, this particular F50 was purchased by Paul Osborn and brought to the UK, although it remained unregistered. Osborn, the owner of the 'Cars International' dealership, sold the car in July 1998 to brothers Dick and John Marconi of Newport Beach, California. The car resided within the Marconi Museum for nearly 17 years, publicly displayed alongside nearly 100 other significant vehicles, including another Ferrari F50. During its time at the museum, this F50 covered just over 500 kilometers and received new fuel bladders from Ferrari Technologies California.
In 2015, the F50 was exported once again and found its home in Tony Denny's Gosford Classic Car Museum in Australia. While on display there, it underwent servicing by Ferrari of Sydney and, in March 2018, was awarded Ferrari's red book Classiche certification following an inspection.
This example was first registered in the UK in 2017, having been acquired by the chairman of the UK's largest Ferrari dealer group. Since then, the car has undergone servicing by both Joe Macari and H.R. Owen Ferrari. Today, it presents with just 1,900 kilometers and showcases a beautiful carbon fiber weave to match.
