The McLaren P1, often regarded as the spiritual successor to the iconic McLaren F1, stands on the shoulders of giants. In 1993, the McLaren F1 redefined the boundaries of what a road-legal supercar could achieve. Now, two decades later, the torch has been passed on. The name "P1" holds a special significance, referring to pole position or position 1 in Formula One, offering a clear signal of McLaren's intentions and the infusion of Formula 1 technology within this remarkable car.
As one of only 375 units worldwide, the McLaren P1 has already earned its place as a modern classic and a highly coveted collectible, following in the footsteps of the now immensely valuable McLaren F1. The McLaren P1 also holds a special place in the "Holy Trinity," a groundbreaking trio of hybrid hypercars that took the automotive world by storm and remain among the most sought-after vehicles for collectors and investors.
Crafted with the intent of being the ultimate driver's car, the McLaren P1 boasts an impressive 903bhp and 664 lb ft of torque generated by the familiar 3.8L V8 Twin-Turbo engine. This supercar accelerates from 0-62mph in just 2.8 seconds, channeled through the rear wheels and a seven-speed twin-clutch transmission. It achieves a top speed of 217mph.
The chassis is a featherlight carbon fiber Mono-cage, weighing in at only 90kg. Carbon ceramic brakes ensure precise stopping power, while the car features active aerodynamics, capable of generating up to 600kg of downforce in Race mode. Each corner of the car benefits from McLaren's Race Chassis Control active dampers. In a nod to current Formula 1 technology, the P1 includes a Drag Reduction System (DRS) that alters the rear wing to enhance straight-line performance and IPAS for an extra burst of power.
