The McLaren Speedtail was unveiled during a private presentation in Woking on 26 October 2018. Conceived within McLaren’s Ultimate Series and closely related in architecture to the 720S, it was developed with McLaren Special Operations (MSO) for extensive bespoke commissioning and built as a limited series of 106 cars. Its defining elements include a central driving position, a carbon-fibre monocoque, and an elongated “teardrop” body with retractable cameras in place of door mirrors and flexible active rear control surfaces, all in the pursuit of efficient high-speed travel.
