Chassis

The Challenge sheds weight from the standard 458 through thinner body panels, carbon-fibre replacement panels and polycarbonate windows and windscreen. The 458 suspension uses double wishbones at the front and a multi-link layout at the rear, and the race car adds centre-lock wheels, an air-jack mounting at the rear, a racing exhaust and tow hooks at both ends.

Challenge development

Ferrari presented the 458 Challenge in July 2010 for the 2011 one-make racing season. It replaced the F430 Challenge and was succeeded by the 488 Challenge for 2017.

Competition construction

The Challenge reduced mass through thinner body panels, carbon-fiber components and polycarbonate glazing. Its racing cockpit and air-jack provisions distinguish it from a road-going 458.

Evo specification

The Evo package introduced for the 2014 season concentrated on aerodynamics, including a larger rear wing. Ferrari also offered an upgrade kit for existing Challenge cars, so model year alone does not establish Evo equipment.
