Turbocharged F154 V8
The 488 succeeded the naturally aspirated 458 in 2015. Its dry-sump F154 V8 displaces 3,902 cc, with twin-scroll turbochargers and air-to-air intercoolers. The name refers to approximately 488 cc per cylinder.
Airflow management
Split side intakes separate airflow toward the engine and intercoolers. Underbody vortex generators, a rear diffuser with controlled flaps and a slotted rear spoiler generate downforce without a tall fixed rear wing.
Spider construction
The Spider debuted at Frankfurt in September 2015 with a folding hardtop. It shares the GTB’s twin-turbo V8 and 7-speed dual-clutch drivetrain, while its roof mechanism and reinforced open body add weight.
