After the limited production run of the 911 R finished Porsche realised the appetite for a wingless manual GT3 was massive, plus there were plenty of customers who were very unhappy about not getting 911 R slot. Porsche listened and so the 991.2 GT3 Touring was born. The GT3 Touring packs the same 4.0L flat-six from the GT3 revving all the way to a biblical 9,000rpm and shooting the touring from 0-60mph in just 3.9s. Rear wheel steering, 44mm wider track and 25mm lower suspension over the 911 Carrera give the GT3 touring that superior performance handling and stance. The lack of the fixed rear wing makes the GT3 a wolf in sheep’s clothing, whilst the non-optional 6-Speed GT Sports manual transmission ensure maximum driver engagement to explore the finely tuned engine. From a practical standpoint the lack of rear seats creates a cavernous 2-tier parcel shelf which coupled with the front boot provide ample storage to live up to the ‘touring’ name.

New 911 platform
Unveiled at Frankfurt in September 2011, the 991 introduced a new platform for the 7th Generation 911. Its 2,450 mm Carrera wheelbase is 100 mm longer than the 997, with a new transaxle arrangement repositioning the rear axle relative to the engine.
Mixed-material structure
Porsche combined high-strength steel, aluminum and composites in the 991 structure. The platform supported coupe, cabriolet, Targa and later Speedster bodies, alongside distinct Carrera, Turbo and GT derivatives.
Production series
The final 991 left production on December 20, 2019. Porsche built 233,540 examples across the generation; that figure covers the whole 991 range rather than an individual limited edition.
