The gearbox sits at the rear axle rather than behind the engine, and the rear suspension is a de Dion tube: both were unusual on a road car of 1957, and both put the weight where Lancia wanted it. Disc brakes were fitted at all four wheels from the start.
Lancia built the Flaminia at Turin from 1957 to 1970, and had the bodies made outside: Pinin Farina, Touring and Zagato each dressed the same chassis. It was the car the Italian state used for its presidents.
The available examples are all from the 1962 model year.
