About the Mercedes-Benz 380 SL

From late 1981 the V8 SLs were retuned for efficiency, with a much longer axle ratio on the 380 SL, 2.47:1 instead of 3.27:1. It is a two-seat roadster with a folding soft top and a detachable hardtop, and 380 SLs built from 1981 received a more reliable automatic climate control.

The 380 SL replaced the 350 SL in 1980 and gave way to the 420 SL in 1985, after 53,200 had been built.
