The folding hardtop makes the Portofino a coupé and a convertible in one body, and the chassis, built from twelve different aluminium alloys, is a third stiffer than the California T it replaced while weighing less.

Ferrari built the Portofino at Maranello from 2017, and the Portofino M followed in 2021 with twenty horsepower more and an eighth gear. The name is the fishing village on the Ligurian coast.
