Racing engine lineage: The 4,593 cc naturally aspirated V8 derives from the architecture of the RS Spyder endurance-racing engine. Porsche increased its stroke while retaining a 95 mm bore; the road-car engine revs to 9,200 rpm.
Hybrid axle layout: One electric motor works with the V8 at the rear axle through 7-speed PDK. A second motor drives the front axle independently, with a clutch that can disconnect it; this arrangement gives the 918 electric all-wheel drive.
