Model history · Porsche 911

Eight generations of the Porsche 911 run from the original 901 to the 992. The model was presented in 1963 and series production began in September 1964. The 993 was the last air-cooled generation; the 996 introduced water cooling.

Chassis

Eleven generations since September 1964, each known by its internal code: 901, G-series, 964, 993, 996, 997, 991 and 992. The flat-six has always sat behind the rear axle. The 993 of 1994 to 1998 was the last air-cooled 911; the 996 brought water cooling in 1998, after thirty-4 years.

Clubsport development

Porsche introduced the track-only GT2 RS Clubsport at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. The original series was limited to 200 cars and retained the GT2 RS engine and transmission.

Competition body and safety

The Clubsport adopts a larger carbon-fiber rear wing, a roof escape hatch, a racing fuel cell and an FIA-approved roll cage. A single racing seat and a GT3 R-derived steering wheel distinguish its cockpit from the road GT2 RS.
