The structure is an aluminium spaceframe weighing 241 kg, the engine set behind the front axle and the gearbox over the rear one, for a 47:53 weight split. The SLS was the first car AMG designed and built entirely on its own, and its gullwing doors are hinged at the roof, a form taken from the 300 SL of 1954.
Mercedes-AMG has been based at Affalterbach since 1976 and belonged to Daimler outright since 2005. Its rule of one man, one engine puts the builder's signature plate on each hand-assembled V8 and V12, and the GT and the SLS are the cars AMG designed from the ground up rather than reworked.
The available examples cover model years 2010 to 2015. The median odometer reading is 4,312 miles, and 39 of the 64 listings that state it show under 10,000 km. 8 examples are listed as new and 61 as used. The most common exterior colours are not specified (27), black (9) and white (8).
Across the listings in this selection, the Mercedes-AMG SLS is quoted at 571 to 751 hp depending on version, 6,208 cm³ and coupe. These are the figures dealers declare, not a reconstructed factory specification.
