About the Mercedes-Benz G 55 AMG

The G-Class keeps the ladder frame and the two rigid axles of the military vehicle it descends from, and the AMG version adds the Electronic Stability Program, Brake Assist and the four-wheel Electronic Traction System introduced on the range in 2001. The cabin keeps the upright glasshouse and the flat bonnet of the original, so the driver sits high and sees the four corners of the car; the door handles still shut with the rifle-bolt sound the model is known for.

The G-Class has been built at Graz in Austria since 1979, by Magna Steyr, and is the longest-running model line Mercedes-Benz has ever had. AMG became a Mercedes-Benz subsidiary in 1999.
