About the Ferrari 575M Maranello

The gearbox sits at the rear axle rather than behind the engine, which is what a transaxle layout buys: the mass moves back and the front-engined car balances like a mid-engined one. Ferrari built 2,056 cars, of which 246 had a clutch pedal. The F1 gearbox of the 575M was a generation ahead of the 550's, and the fixed shift paddles behind the wheel appeared here before they became standard across the range.

Ferrari built the 575M at Maranello from 2002 to 2006, as a revision of the 550 rather than a new car, the M standing for modificata. The 599 replaced it.
